Opposites

***Wonder if we could trade?
India elects Narendra Modi, Obama's polar opposite.

“A meeting between the two men, when it occurs, could be fascinating to observe. Obama and Modi are from two different planets, and each, in his heart, is likely to have a hearty contempt for the other. The former is an exquisitely calibrated product of American liberalism, ever attentive to such notions as ‘inclusiveness.’ He is the acme of political correctness (notwithstanding the odd drone directed at ‘AfPak’). Modi, by contrast, is a blunt-spoken nationalist, opposed to welfare, and to the ‘appeasement’ of minorities.”

***Michael Goodwin says the American spirit is breaking.

Glenn Reynolds says it's not breaking, it's being consciously undermined. I have to agree with Reynolds. Barack Obama and liberals like him do not believe in American exceptionalism, and they don't want anyone else to believe it, either.

***The feds are trying to put gun sellers out of business any way they can:

Gun retailers say the Obama administration is trying to put them out of business with regulations and investigations that bypass Congress and choke off their lines of credit, freeze their assets and prohibit online sales.
Since 2011, regulators have increased scrutiny on banks’ customers. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. in 2011 urged banks to better manage the risks of their merchant customers who employ payment processors, such as PayPal, for credit card transactions. The FDIC listed gun retailers as “high risk” along with porn stores and drug paraphernalia shops.

This is insidious, people. An unarmed populace is a vulnerable populace, and that's exactly what they're aiming for.

***Plan to honor Mark Twain scrapped after complaints about racism. Oh, for heaven's sake. Don't you liberals have anything better to do?

An effort to name a Lake Tahoe cove after American literary icon Mark Twain has been scuttled for the second time in three years, citing opposition from a tribe that says the writer held racist views of Native Americans.

Never mind the fact that he was a great writer.

***Ready to feel old? Mick Jagger is now a great-grandfather. Time to hang up the skinny jeans, dude.

***Disneyland tickets are getting more expensive. Isn't everything? It's my dream to go to Disney World someday.

The price of a ticket at Disneyland is creeping closer to triple-digits.
A single-day ticket for either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park is now $96 for those 10 and up.
The $4 hike went into effect Sunday and is about the same as previous boosts, which usually happens about once a year. Single-day ticket prices have more than doubled since 2003.

A Complaint

There is a change--and I am poor;
Your love hath been, nor long ago,
A fountain at my fond heart's door,
Whose only business was to flow;
And flow it did; not taking heed
Of its own bounty, or my need.

What happy moments did I count!
Blest was I then all bliss above!
Now, for that consecrated fount
Of murmuring, sparkling, living love,
What have I? Shall I dare to tell?
A comfortless and hidden well.

A well of love--it may be deep--
I trust it is,--and never dry:
What matter? If the waters sleep
In silence and obscurity.
--Such change, and at the very door
Of my fond heart, hath made me poor.
