Restoring a Free Society

***That is the cardinal sin of the Koch brothers, and why the Left hates them so much.

A truly free society is based on a vision of respect for people and what they value. In a truly free society, any business that disrespects its customers will fail, and deserves to do so. The same should be true of any government that disrespects its citizens. The central belief and fatal conceit of the current administration is that you are incapable of running your own life, but those in power are capable of running it for you. This is the essence of big government and collectivism.

This is a really good, informative piece. Take the time to read it.

***Another Fort Hood disaster. Remind me again how not allowing concealed carry guns on a military base makes sense? Is it really that hard to figure out that unarmed people are a tantalizing target for nutballs? This is a good picture of the overall gun debate in America. Disarm the honest people, and all hell will break loose.

***Obama lampoons GOP as "coldhearted." Yes, says the man who is responsible for millions of people losing their health insurance, not to mention their jobs. Please, go peddle your crap somewhere else. Like Siberia.

He said Republican policies were "not necessarily coldhearted" before going on to attack GOP opposition to increasing the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour. Opposing the increase was the Republican equivalent of yelling "Get off my lawn!" at young people, the president said, according to the Times.

Please, stop. Your brilliance is blinding.

Having just ordered a lunchtime sandwich at a local delicatessen, Obama said that if the GOP economic plan were a sandwich "they'd have to call it the Stinkburger or the Meanwich."
Witty, no?

***Seriously? Now the prairie chicken is threatening oil drilling? Another appallingly stupid move by this administration.

The Obama administration announced Thursday that it has added the lesser prairie chicken to its list of threatened species, sparking criticism from lawmakers and energy producers who say the move will undermine oil and gas drilling, wind farms, and agriculture, and take a toll on state economies.

The Fish and Wildlife Service has classified the bird, a type of grouse, one step below "endangered" status, giving it a wider range of protections under the Endangered Species Act, Fox News reported.

The new regulation, set to take effect May 1, will impact five central and southwestern states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, and Kansas, raising concerns from elected officials about its impact on the states' economies.

"This is an overreach on the part of the federal government," Kansas Republican Gov. Sam Brownback said in a statement, according to Fox News. "We are looking at possible responses on this issue."

Answer to a Child's Question
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Do you ask what the birds say? The Sparrow, the Dove,
The Linnet and Thrush say, "I love and I love!"
In the winter they're silent—the wind is so strong;
What it says, I don't know, but it sings a loud song.
But green leaves, and blossoms, and sunny warm weather,
And singing, and loving—all come back together.
But the Lark is so brimful of gladness and love,
The green fields below him, the blue sky above,
That he sings, and he sings; and for ever sings he—
"I love my Love, and my Love loves me!"
