In Defense of the Family

***Concerned Women for America is a great conservative women's organization. Here is their argument in defense of traditional marriage from the Biblical point of view.

God made marriage between a man and a woman.
"And He answered and said to them, 'Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning "made them male and female," and said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh"? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.'" (Matthew 19:4-6)
Earthly example of Christ's relationship with the church. God recognizes marriage as a covenant representative of his covenant with the church.
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church." (Ephesians 5:25-29)
Populating the earth is a mandate from God, not a threat to humanity.
"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'" (Genesis 1:27-28)
God requires us all to honor their parents; the only commandment with promise.
"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you." (Exodus 20:12)
God holds parents accountable for raising their children.
"And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4)

It's obvious that God meant marriage to be between a man and a woman. We ignore His teaching at our own peril.

***Megan McArdle: Latest Obamacare delay is probably illegal. Ya think?

Whatever the stated reason for the new delay, it is illegal. The text of the PPACA is quite clear. The text of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act provides that the employer mandate provisions 'shall apply' after December 31, 2013. The Treasury Department claims that it has broad authority to offer 'transition relief' in implementing the law. That may often be true, but not here. The language of the statute is clear, and it is well established that when Congress enacts explicit deadlines into federal statutes, without also providing authority to waive or delay such deadlines, federal agencies are obligated to stay on schedule. So, for instance, federal courts routinely force the Environmental Protection Agency to act when it misses deadlines and environmentalist groups file suit.

Doesn't seem to matter. This president does whatever he wants, and gets away with it.

***Rush Limbaugh predicts Republican wave in midterm elections. From your mouth to God's ear, Rush.

"I'm gonna go out on a limb here," Limbaugh declared. "I fully expect the 2014 midterms to be a wave election like 2010. I think the people of this country are gonna sweep Democrats out of office every chance they get, every opportunity they get."

The sweep will be fueled by voters fed up with steamroller tactics by the White House and the legislative and judicial branches.

"I think this is setting up every bit as big as 2010, if not bigger," he said. "The tea party, the American people are livid by what's going on . . . They can't believe the people whose power is being stolen are not standing up and trying to get it back."
1. From an early age, Thompson and his wife expected much of their kids. The expectations they placed on them were age-appropriate and not burdensome, but the Thompsons certainly didn’t let their kids coast through life on a steady diet of video games, TV and a “mom does everything for me” attitude. Rather, they empowered their children with knowledge and prompted them to take personal responsibility.
2. The Thompsons created an atmosphere that facilitated learning. This involved giving grace when a child made a mistake. It involved placing boundaries on how the kids spent their time. The Thompsons also provided information and resources to help their children go out and do things for themselves, instead of stepping in to directly help at every turn.
3. The couple made their children live out their values. For example, they fostered a sense of camaraderie by having the older children help their younger siblings with homework. They helped their boys and girls see the importance of “giving back” by requiring them to perform community service.
