Not a Coincidence

***You won't be hearing much about this in the major media. Love this headline from a Wisconsin blog:
Wisconsin Among Best in Nation on Economic Outlook. Think Scott Walker's reforms had anything to do with it?

This is big.
Not even two months ago, the media, Democrats, and liberals everywhere spoke with glee about Wisconsin being ranked 49th in six month economic forecast from the Philadelphia Federal Reserve bank.
But in the matter of just two months, the economic forecast for Wisconsin has taken a stunning trajectory up.
First, the April numbers (released at the end of May) that were the topic of headlines and press releases were revised upward to rank Wisconsin at 40th.
Then, the May numbers (released in June) saw Wisconsin jump to 20th.
And with new numbers out today for June, Wisconsin is now ranked 5th in new rankings among states on their six month economic outlook. For those keeping track, that's 40th, to 20th, to 5th in just a couple months.
And in another leading economic indicator, the coincidence index, Wisconsin ranks 2nd.

I love to rub stuff like this in liberals' faces...not that they ever "get it."

***What, the Democrat Party covered up Filner's sexual harassment? Where are the feminists? Oh have to be a Republican to hate women. I forgot.

Saldaña said that in summer 2011 six prominent women in local politics, business and education told her that Filner had physically or verbally harassed them. Saldaña had been exploring what turned out to be an unsuccessful bid for Congress and the conversations came in the context of the 2012 elections.
Saldaña said she contacted former party Chairman Jess Durfee with the allegations and Durfee was among a group of Democratic leaders who met with Filner to discuss them that summer. She said nothing happened.
“As disgraceful as Bob’s behavior has been, it’s been tolerated by our Democratic Party leadership,” she said.

Party leaders, she said, made it clear that if people didn’t support Filner they wouldn’t receive their support again.

Imagine that.

***Tax exempt groups were IRS targets. Make that CONSERVATIVE tax exempt groups.

He said the Virginia-based Leadership Institute was audited in 2011 and 2012 for activities it engaged in during the 2008 election year, even though it had functioned as a tax-exempt organization since 1979.
It faced “invasive questions” — including about its interns and where they went on to work — and ended up turning over to the IRS more than 23,000 pages of documents at a cost of roughly $50,000 to comply with the inquiry, Issa said.
“It has come to the attention of the committee that in addition to inappropriate treatment given to some applicants for tax-exempt status, existing organizations already recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS, appear to have faced questionable treatment by the IRS,” Issa wrote Monday in a letter to the Treasury inspector general (IG) for tax administration.

***Obama says the pay gap is "morally wrong." Oh, so many things to say...

The focus is intended to make it easier for Obama to argue that new taxes on the rich — and not cuts to social spending — should be imposed to lower the deficit.
It also dovetails with Obama’s call for Congress to raise the federal $7.25 minimum wage and to end the automatic spending cuts known as sequestration.

“This growing inequality is not just morally wrong, it’s bad economics,” Obama said in remarks last week in Galesburg, Ill., where he began a new push on the economy.
What a flippin' liar. He wouldn't know morality if it slapped him in the face.

***Obama waging war on new energy. Yeah, the same people who wail "we have to stop being so dependent on foreign oil!" during their campaigns. Give them a chance to do something about it, and they run the other way.

Forbes magazine editor Steve Forbes says President Barack Obama is waging war on oil, gas, and coal, and instead favors "medieval technologies like windmills."

The former presidential candidate asserts in an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV that "the president of the United States, unfortunately, still does not like oil, gas, and coal. He's waging war on all three of them.

"And the great fracking boom that has led to the great boom in natural gas, huge advances in terms of hydraulic drilling that's led to an oil boom, all of that happened in spite of the obstacles of the administration," Forbes said.

"But look at what comes out of the [Environmental Protection Agency] and other government agencies. They still are anti-traditional energy, so I don’t think this guy is going to approve the Keystone pipeline anytime soon, if ever.

Many husbands send roses to their wives on special occasions, but one Army officer went a step further by enlisting more than a dozen strangers to help deliver his bouquet.
On his flight home from Afghanistan a week after his 20th anniversary, Scott Hinson enlisted 19 fellow passengers to give his wife a rose as they got off the plane.
“I knew I wanted to give some roses, so I thought, ‘How can I do something different?’ That’s when I started working with my daughters,” the chief warrant officer said Tuesday on TODAY.
The couple’s two teenagers stood next to their mom holding up a sign, “Welcome home Chief Hinson,” so that people would know who to hand the roses to.
Kristi Hinson said she was totally caught by surprise.
“I saw two passengers coming down with a single rose each, and I was like, ‘What in the world?’ So I dismissed it and turned around and looked back up the escalator, waiting for him,” she said. “Before I knew it, they were behind me saying, ‘Happy anniversary,’ and that’s when I realized that those roses were for me.”
Hinson had the event recorded in a video he posted on YouTube, which captures his wife’s amazement as strangers approached her with roses and congratulatory greetings.

Conan: The other day at LAX, Kanye West punched a photographer. Apparently, Kanye got mad at the guy for not taking his picture.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel closed the books on 2012 with $33.4 million in unallocated cash on hand — down from $167 million the year before — while adding to the mountain of debt piled on Chicago taxpayers, year-end audits show.
Last week, Moody’s Investors ordered an unprecedented triple-drop in the city’s bond rating, citing Chicago’s “very large and growing” pension liabilities, “significant” debt service payments, “unrelenting public safety demands” and historic reluctance to raise local taxes that has continued under Emanuel.

Obviously learned everything he knows about governing from Barack Obama.

ABC's Misleading Edit of Juror B29

***I'm sure you've all heard about the juror who said Zimmerman got away with murder. Well, surprise surprise, it's not as it seems. ABC, like NBC, likes to fudge with context in order to get the headlines they want.

Yesterday Breitbart News noted the ABC interview with Juror B29. The big news was that Maddy--her last name was never used to protect her privacy--had told Robin Roberts "George Zimmerman got away with murder." And indeed if you watch the Nightline edit of the interview she does seem to say that without hesitation or reservation.
However, William Saletan at Slate points out that the unedited interview seems to show something different. Maddy actually hesitates twice when answering Roberts' question which contains the statement "George Zimmerman got away with murder." As Saletan points out "she looks as though she’s trying to reconcile the sentiment that’s been quoted to her—that Zimmerman 'got away with murder'—with her own perspective. So she repeats the quote and adds words of her own, to convey what she thinks: that there’s a justice higher than the law, which Zimmerman will have to face "

Follow the link and watch the unedited clip for yourself.

Well That's Awkward...

***IRS employee union doesn't want Obamacare. But...the IRS will be charged with enforcing it. You can't make this stuff up.

IRS employees have a prominent role in Obamacare, but their union wants no part of the law.
National Treasury Employees Union officials are urging members to write their congressional representatives in opposition to receiving coverage through President Obama’s health care law.
The union leaders are providing members with a form letter to send to the congressmen that says “I am very concerned about legislation that has been introduced by Congressman Dave Camp to push federal employees out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and into the insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.”

Isn't it funny how all the people touting how wonderful Obamacare is are exempting themselves from it?

A purported cover-up of the Benghazi attack, Justice Department moves against reporters and IRS agents targeting conservative groups all brought vows from Obama to get to the root of the problems and punish anyone found responsible, he said.

"What happened between the time they made that statement and today?" asked the former Bush adviser Thursday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."

"We do not know who is responsible for the lie to the American people that this was all because of a video which no one saw," said Rove of the Benghazi story.

61% Tax?

***Yep, Phil Mickelson. I don't care how much money you make, the government does not have a right to 61% of it! Yeah, they try to play the "haves and have-nots" game, but the bottom line is what you earn should be yours, period!

Thanks to his recent wins at both The Open Championship and the Scottish Open, Phil Mickelson pocketed more than $2.16 million in just two weeks.
The world’s top golfer —who came under fire earlier this year when he complained about his supposed 60 percent tax rate as a California resident — is taking another hit on his recent earnings.
According to Forbes, Mickelson has been subjected to the United Kingdom’s 45 percent tax rate for those who make more than £150,000 a year. In addition, the magazine reports, he will be taxed on a portion of the endorsement income he earned during his time in Scotland.

*** Christian tragedy in the Muslim world.

Few people realize that we are today living through the largest persecution of Christians in history, worse even than the famous attacks under ancient Roman emperors like Diocletian and Nero. Estimates of the numbers of Christians under assault range from 100-200 million. According to one estimate, a Christian is martyred every five minutes. And most of this persecution is taking place at the hands of Muslims. Of the top fifty countries persecuting Christians, forty-two have either a Muslim majority or have sizeable Muslim populations.

***New push for government to take over state, local voting laws. It's insidious what they're trying to do. We can't let it happen.

The U.S. Department of Justice plans to ask a federal court to reinstate its authority over voting laws in Texas, part of a new Obama administration strategy to challenge state and local election laws it says discriminate by race, Attorney General Eric Holder said on Thursday.
"Based on the evidence of intentional racial discrimination that was presented last year in the redistricting case, Texas v. Holder ... we believe that the State of Texas should be required to go through a preclearance process whenever it changes its voting laws and practices," Holder told the annual conference of the National Urban League, a civil rights organization, which is meeting in Philadelphia.
The Obama administration has been searching for new ways to oppose voting discrimination since the U.S. Supreme Court in June invalidated a key part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

Mark and Dana Gerstle had planned to talk about the assistance they received from Zimmerman, who was recently acquitted of charges in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman's attorney Mark O'Mara told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that they changed their minds, deciding they didn't want to be in the spotlight. After discussing the situation with family and friends, O'Mara said they realized that being connected to Zimmerman right now could be toxic.
"They wanted to thank him publicly," O'Mara said. "They thought that they could not, for the possibility of blowback against them."

Shocked in Heaven

-- Author unknown

heaven's doorI was shocked, confused, bewildered
as I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
who made me sputter and gasp--
the thieves, the liars, the sinners,
the alcoholics and the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade
who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought
was rotting away in hell,
was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, "What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.
"And why's everyone so quiet,
so somber - give me a clue."
"Hush , child," He said, "they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you."

NYT Hackery

***Nothing new to those of us paying attention, of course, but here's more proof that the New York Times is just an arm of the Democrat party:

The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto is often at his best when he’s skewering the New York Times.  Thus, his commentary on the Grey Lady’s hilarious flip-flop-flip on “filibuster reform” is priceless.  To recap: Times editors supported nuking the filibuster when Republicans were using it to frustrate President Clinton, then decided that it was an important and “effective” tool during the Bush years, only to revert back to their previous position now that the maneuver is again being wielded by the GOP.

James Taranto's take:

It’s now clearer than ever that the Times’s guiding principle is nothing other than the tactical interests of the Democratic Party. If the Democrats hold both the presidency and between 50 and 59 seats, as they do today, abolishing the filibuster is in their interest and thus a matter of high principle to the Times. If the Republicans do, as in 2005, maintaining the filibuster is in the Democrats’ interest and thus a matter of equally high principle.

It's laughable that they still claim to be objective.

***Leftist tactics: Deceit, lies, propaganda. Here's the story of a leftist plant, pretending to be a pro-Zimmerman protestor and holding a sign that says "We're Racist and Proud!" What a despicable human being.

***Honoring the right of the ballot. Great piece by Dr. Ben Carson.

I have had the opportunity to visit many countries, and I have taken it upon myself to inquire how people in other nations prevent voter fraud. Even those from Third World countries tell me that everyone has some type of official voting credential that is nationally recognized. It seems only logical that you would want to ensure that only legitimate constituents of a region would be able to vote on issues relevant to that region. Nevertheless, certain groups and individuals in America have begun to agitate the populace about the unfairness of a system that requires voter identification. The word “racism” is tossed around so easily by those intent on creating division and victimhood instead of unity. The energies of every faction of our society would be much better spent by legitimately analyzing the reasons why so many Americans don’t vote and how we should address that issue, not only prior to a national election, but at all times.

David Brody: Do you believe that spiritual revival is needed in this country?
Sen. Ted Cruz: Without a doubt.
I think we’re at the edge of a precipice. If we keep going down this path we’re risking losing our nation. We’re risking losing the incredible oasis of liberty.

A Bizarre Turn

***Obamacare looks to be in trouble...we can only hope:

The Affordable Care Act originally passed the House in 2009 with 220 votes, all but one of them Democrats. Recently 251 members of the House, including 22 Democrats, voted to postpone for one year implementation of the heart of the act -- the individual mandate to purchase health insurance. If this were any other issue, liberal commentators might see a governing majority emerging in favor of delaying Obamacare.

***Barbarians escape from Abu Ghraib. This is not good.

Hundreds of convicts, including senior members of al Qaeda, broke out of Iraq's Abu Ghraib jail as comrades launched a military-style assault to free them, authorities said on Monday. The deadly raid on the high-security jail happened as Sunni Muslim militants are gaining momentum in their insurgency against the Shi'ite-led government that came to power after the U.S. invasion to oust Saddam Hussein. Suicide bombers drove cars packed with explosives to the gates of the prison on the outskirts of Baghdad on Sunday night and blasted their way into the compound, while gunmen attacked guards with mortars and rocket-propelled grenades. Other militants took up positions near the main road, fighting off security reinforcements sent from Baghdad as several militants wearing suicide vests entered the prison on foot to help free the inmatesTen policemen and four militants were killed in the ensuing clashes, which continued until Monday morning, when military helicopters arrived, helping to regain control. By that time, hundreds of inmates had succeeded in fleeing Abu Ghraib, the prison made notorious a decade ago by photographs showing abuse of prisoners by U.S. soldiers.

Not to mention, according to Vice President Joe Biden, there just isn't enough time to prosecute people who lie on their background check forms.

As the Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday, six people were killed in Chicago last week. The only thing that will end the violence in the Windy City is a a change in culture, not more gun control for the rest of the country.

Never mind that the last Republican to hold the Mayor's office was in 1957. Never mind that there has been only one Republican city council member in the last 30 years. It's still the Republicans' fault! Unbelievable.

The Biggest Threat

***This is a really good article. "Rhetoric, Race, and Reality in America." Takeaway:

The biggest threat to black youths is other young blacks, not white bigots.

What is so insidious about this message of victimhood and division is its dishonesty. Despite the tragic death of Martin under circumstances that no one will ever know the true nature of, there is no "big business" of killing blacks in America. There is no wave of bigotry directed at blacks. All this talk is demagogic posturing, and it's dangerous. Young people will absorb this message and view the "other" with suspicion and fear.

These leaders know, even if many of their adherents might not, that the biggest threat to the lives of young blacks is other young blacks, not white bigots. Between 2000 and 2010, 4,607 black murder victims 17 or younger were killed by other blacks (4,441 of the killers were 17 or younger), according to the Wall Street Journal. There were 340 black victims 17 or younger killed by (non-Latino) whites. That means black youths were 13 times more likely to be killed by a black person than by a white one.

Take the time to read the whole thing.

***Government motors is alive and Detroit is dead.

Last Oct. 13, President Obama boasted in a weekly address about the bailed-out auto industry that, "We refused to throw in the towel and do nothing. We refused to let Detroit go bankrupt. I bet on American workers and American ingenuity, and three years later that bet is paying off in a big way."
Less than a year later, the American auto industry is indeed surviving, bolstered largely by a Ford that refused government assistance and foreign transplants located in right-to-work states. Even General Motors has been forced to pay the free market some lip service, lest its customers go elsewhere, even as it accepts Chevy Volt subsidies.
Detroit, however, is dead, and unions and government killed it. Michigan recently became a right-to-work state, but it was too late to save a city that had become beholden to unions. As the United Auto Workers helped destroy the auto industry in and around Detroit, it's no accident that Mercedes-Benz decided to build its flagship SUV in a shiny new facility in Vance, Ala.

In NO state are you required to buy auto insurance simply because you own a car, truck --- whatever.  You are ONLY required to buy car insurance if the car you own or operate is going to be used on public roads.  If your use of the car is limited to private property, no insurance required.  If you own a thousand-acre ranch and have a pickup truck you only use for work on that ranch … no insurance required.  If you own a large manufacturing facility and have vehicles that never leave the grounds, the government requires no insurance.  Those cars running around that NASCAR track on Sunday … do you think that lizard insures them?
Fact is … no individual in the country is required to buy car insurance.  If you decide that you just don’t want to buy this insurance, all you have to do is not own a vehicle that you use on public roads!  Catch a cab.  Hitchhike.  Take the bus.  No insurance!  Borrow a car from someone who has purchased insurance.  You aren’t forced to do anything!  If you decide to use a car on public roads you enter into a contract with the people – through their government – to exercise that privilege.  The state promises to patrol the roads to keep them safe, to keep them in repair, and to allow you access so long as you abide by certain rules.  In turn, you agree to obey certain traffic laws … and to insure your vehicle if you own it.  This is a voluntary contract!  No compulsion.  You are not being FORCED to buy auto insurance.

Love's Language

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

How does Love speak?
In the faint flush upon the telltale cheek,
And in the pallor that succeeds it; by
The quivering lid of an averted eye--
The smile that proves the parent to a sigh
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?
By the uneven heart-throbs, and the freak
Of bounding pulses that stand still and ache,
While new emotions, like strange barges, make
Along vein-channels their disturbing course;
Still as the dawn, and with the dawn's swift force--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?
In the avoidance of that which we seek--
The sudden silence and reserve when near--
The eye that glistens with an unshed tear--
The joy that seems the counterpart of fear,
As the alarmèd heart leaps in the breast,
And knows, and names, and greets its godlike guest--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?
In the proud spirit suddenly grown meek--
The haughty heart grown humble; in the tender
And unnamed light that floods the world with splendor;
In the resemblance which the fond eyes trace
In all fair things to one belovèd face;
In the shy touch of hands that thrill and tremble;
In looks and lips that can no more dissemble--
Thus doth Love speak.

How does Love speak?
In the wild words that uttered seem so weak
They shrink ashamed in silence; in the fire
Glance strikes with glance, swift flashing high and higher,
Like lightnings that precede the mighty storm;
In the deep, soulful stillness; in the warm,
Impassioned tide that sweeps through throbbing veins,
Between the shores of keen delights and pains;
In the embrace where madness melts in bliss,
And in the convulsive rapture of a kiss--
Thus doth Love speak.

To Spite Your Face

***You've heard the old axiom "Cutting off your nose to spite your face?" This is exactly what blacks are doing when they protest against Stand your Ground laws. They have disproportionately benefited blacks in Florida. And by the way, it wasn't used in the George Zimmerman case. No matter. The race pimps never let facts get in the way.

African Americans benefit from Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” self-defense law at a rate far out of proportion to their presence in the state’s population, despite an assertion by Attorney General Eric Holder that repealing “Stand Your Ground” would help African Americans.
Black Floridians have made about a third of the state’s total “Stand Your Ground” claims in homicide cases, a rate nearly double the black percentage of Florida’s population. The majority of those claims have been successful, a success rate that exceeds that for Florida whites.

This is an actual letter sent to Matt Walsh after he talked on his radio show about responsible parenting:

1) Based on your remarks, I have to say I feel bad for your kids. You sound like the sort of person who never should have been a parent. You said you plain to teach your kids “how to think.” I guess this is common in right wing religious fundamentalist households. Personally, I let my child form his own conclusions about things. To impose your views on a child is tantamount to child abuse. Do them a favor, let them think FREELY.
2) You greatly exaggerate the importance of “chores.” Also, the idea that a kid should be forced to “get a job” is abhorrent. My son was very gifted so we gave him all the tools to succeed academically. This meant we didn’t turn him into slave labor and we certainly didn’t tell him he needed to go work behind a cash register. He concentrated on his school work, and we did our job as parents and financially supported him.
3) It’s easy to mock a “30 year old who lives with is parents.” My son is almost 29 and he’s been home with us since he graduated. Unfortunately the job market isn’t the greatest (maybe you hadn’t heard) and I’m not going to let him starve on the street. He has a college education, it’s pointless for him to be out working in a retail store or some other menial job. I will be here for him until he is able to get the job he deserves.
You need to grow up, get some life experiences and then maybe you’ll have the right to sermonize about parenting.

***The silencing of the Victims. This is chilling.

Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., is calling on the Obama administration to explain why the survivors of last year's deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya, were reportedly asked to sign non-disclosure agreements that prevent them from talking about the attack.
In a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and CIA Director John Brennan, Wolf said his office has received reports that some survivors of the attack were asked to sign the confidentiality agreement as recently as this summer.
"If these reports are accurate, it would raise serious questions about additional restrictions the State Department has placed on those with knowledge of the Benghazi attacks," Wolf said in the letter. "I also worry about the impact of any [non-disclosure agreements] on congressional efforts to understand fully what happened that night and why the agency responded as it did."

Those of us paying attention know why they don't want the survivors to talk. This is blatant abuse of power. They can't be allowed to get away with it. This is also another reason they keep fanning the flames of division over the Zimmerman/Martin trial - to divert peoples' attention away from stuff like this.

***Um.....there are no words...

Here's #1:

They work at being social.

Studies show that people who stay connected to others demonstrate higher levels of wisdom than those who are more isolated. Make an effort to join a new club, reconnect with far-flung friends on Facebook, or invite an old friend or new co-worker for coffee. Next time you’re at a party or gathering, single out someone who’s standing alone and strike up a conversation. People generally love to talk about themselves; you, on the other hand, have a harder job: to listen closely.

Mitch Daniels was Right

***...but the AP ignored the facts and attacked. Oh, what a surprise...

The Associated Press broke a story on July 16 that Mitch Daniels, the president of Purdue University, wrote e-mails while the governor of Indiana attacking the use of Howard Zinn’s book, A People’s History of the United States, as “a truly execrable, anti-factual piece of disinformation that misstates American history on every page.”
My first response: good for Mr. Daniels. His comment, made on February 9, 2010—according to the date stamp on his e-mail—shows that he has a pretty clear grasp of both American history and Mr. Zinn’s book.
But the Associated Press wasn’t interested in Daniels’s intellectual acumen.  Its story was headlined, “Mitch Daniels Looked to Censor Opponents,” and it was based on a Freedom of Information Act request.  If the four brief e-mails he sent to political allies over the course of 51 minutes in February 2010 are all the AP came up with, or an additional e-mail sent on April 11, 2009, we can best conclude that the governor was a busy man with little patience for academic bunkum.

Being conservative and intellectual will get you in trouble in today's political/news climate. Facts don't matter.

***Saw this on Facebook and loved it!

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables when a voice in the dark said, 'Jesus knows you're here.'

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze. When he heard nothing more, he shook his head and continued.

Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard 'Jesus is watching you.'

Startled, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.

'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot.

'Yes', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he's watching you.'

The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'

'Moses,' replied the bird.

'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'

'The kind of people who would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

***"Bash mobs" sweep through southern California. Thank you, Mr. President, for your words calling for calm and order. Wait...

Organized "bash mob" crime rampages of roving groups attacking innocent people and businesses have been striking cities around the United States. Law enforcement agencies in Southern California have reported few similar problems -- until now.
In the last several days, there have been several reports of such group crime waves in South L.A., Hollywood, San Bernardino and Victorville. Long Beach police are bracing for another one Friday.
These so-called bash mobs of "flash mob" crime waves are organized through social media and have been a problem in Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington. In April, 28 Chicago youths were arrested on suspicion of attacking pedestrians along the city's famed Magnificent Mile. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation in May enacting stiffer penalties for people who text or use social media to organize mob attacks.

If you're in a concealed carry state, I would recommend strapping it on.

***A judge is ordering Gov. Rick Snyder to withdraw Detroit's declaration of bankruptcy. Typical Democrat. Has no idea financially how this can be done, just knows it can be done!

A judge is ordering Gov. Rick Snyder to withdraw Detroit’s bankruptcy petition, saying the state is illegally trampling the rights of pensioners.
But the practical impact of the decision is unclear. Once a bankruptcy filing is made, it generally trumps other litigation in state courts.Ingham County Judge Rosemarie Aquilina’s decision Friday came in a lawsuit filed by Detroit pensioners. The judge had planned an emergency hearing Thursday, but Detroit then filed for bankruptcy protection. The judge says plaintiffs in the case were “blindsided.” The attorney general’s office says it will take Aquilina’s order to the state appeals court.

Obviously an Obama-ite. Thinks she can do whatever she wants, the law be danged.

***State Department in chaos. This is news?

An obscure little State Department agency whose work is called "critical to the Department's information security posture" has been in a shambles for years, and is still in chaos, according to an audit report by the department's inspector general released yesterday.
As one result of all the bumbling and inaction, the security checks that the agency is supposed to perform and subsequent approvals for use that it is supposed to bestow every three years on 36 of those State Department systems have lapsed entirely, meaning that they are operating, in effect, illegally.

Good news for couch potatoes: Researchers are developing a drug that provides all the benefits of exercise, with no actual workout required, according to the New York Times.
In a study published in Nature Medicine, researchers injected a compound into obese mice that increased production of the muscle protein REV-ERB, which is known to have an impact on sleep and on animals’ internal biological clocks.
The animals injected with the compound lost weight and improved their cholesterol levels – even when on a high-fat diet, the New York Times reported. Furthermore, the injected mice also used more oxygen during the day and expended 5 percent more energy compared to mice in the control group – even though they were not exercising more.
