***It's gonna be a busy day! I should be transcribing, but I've been wasting time on Facebook, now I'm gonna do my blog. I got some work done yesterday, but I'll really have to hit it this afternoon. Our Elsrod family reunion is today at my sister's house. I have my barbecued meat balls in the crock pot, so when I get back from church they'll be ready to go. After that, we're going to a birthday celebration for Mark's uncle, who I think is 93 today. Should be fun!

***Atheists unveil their own monument next to the 10 Commandments monument they protested in Florida. The thing about this is - they're not doing this for "free speech," they're doing it out of spite and anger. The most disturbing thing is their comments on Christianity. Believers don't expect them to have a clue, I guess, and they certainly don't. Everything they "know" about Christianity is wrong. The problem is, many unsaved people will hear what they say and believe it.

***What can we expect from the next decade of technology? This is interesting.

***The Face of Cowardice: Theresa May

Meet the hideous creature who banned Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer from England: British Home Secretary Theresa May, a disgrace to her office, to her nation and to every British citizen who ever lived. On June 25, this deplorable stain on the reputation of a once honorable people “personally directed that [Geller] should be excluded from the United Kingdom” because it is believed that Geller would “foment or justify terrorist violence . . . provoke others to terrorist acts . . . foster hatred,” etc. Robert Spencer writes of the ban:
We had planned to lay a wreath at a memorial to British soldier Lee Rigby, who was beheaded by Islamic jihadists on a Woolwich street on May 22. But it is not conducive to the public good in Britain to oppose jihad violence and Islamic supremacism.
British schoolgirls are being systematically gang-raped by Muslims and British soldiers are being hacked to death in the street by Muslims and yet this despicable gutless appeaser, Theresa May, thinks the way to solve the problem is to ban critics of Islam?
Neville Chamberlain was a heroic statesman by comparison.

***Sheila Jackson Lee: Portrait of an Idiot

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee issued a statement today on the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down part of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
It’s as asinine as you’d expect:
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee issued a statement saying the Supreme Court turned the clock back 150 years.
“In 2006 as a Senior Member on House Judiciary Committee I participated in a bipartisan effort to secure a reasoned legislative reauthorization of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. As a Committee, we established a record of 15,000 pages of important testimony. However, this current Congress is one that has not succeeded in passing any major legislation to help the American people in almost 4 years. Every major legislative action that has passed successfully was passed by Democrats and often with no Republicans voting for the legislation,” said the Houston Democrat.
150 years?
You mean 1863? You mean, in the middle of the Civil War, where Republicans were fighting to free the slaves?
You mean, shortly before blacks started joining the Congress?
Of course, they were all Republicans then.
If she’s right, (she’s not, but let’s pretend) then for the next century, expect Democrats to do everything they can to keep black Americans from voting.

History repeats itself, after all.

Double Standards

***The Paula Deen flap - geez, what total nonsense. Did get peoples' attention off of Obama's scandals for a while though, didn't it? Do you really think that's a coincidence? Why isn't Alec Baldwin being given the same treatment for what he said just a couple of days ago? He referred to a journalist as a "toxic little queen." Crickets.

***Goodbye, states rights. Our country as founded is getting more and more unrecognizable.

A federal judge on Friday blocked Michigan's ban on domestic partner benefits for employees who work for public schools or local governments, saying state lawmakers simply wanted to punish gays and lesbians.

***Thanks for bringing us all together, Obama. The death threats on George Zimmerman are appalling.  His life has been ruined because our "news media" and our government wanted to gin up white/black friction. Well, they've certainly gotten their wish. Makes me want to move to a desert island.

***Goodbye, religious liberty. Obamacare ruling mandates that religious employers must provide birth control benefits. Oh, and the lefties will tout this as SUCH a wonderful victory for our country!

***14 GOP Senators voted for the toxic Immigration Bill. Idiots.

RUSH: The fact that we can't have an American citizen show up as a witness and judge her as a witness without regard to her skin color or her heritage or background or what native language she speaks -- the fact that we've got to think about all of that first -- is illustrative of the problems that we have in the country.

Brainwashing People into Hating America

***This is a great piece by Evan Sayet, check it out:

“Stupid, bigoted, phobic, evil and greedy are, of course, the only explanations that the Modern Liberal can or does offer to explain why Right-Thinking people don’t join him in support of his latest godless, anti-scientific, utterly infantile and invariably failed schemes. In fact, take a second and try to think of a single argument that the Modern Liberal offers regarding any issue that doesn’t consist in its entirety of ‘we’re right because (our grandiose self-esteem tells us) we’re morally and intellectually superior, and anyone who disagrees with us is (1) stupid, (2) bigoted, (3) phobic, (4) greedy, or (5) evil.’ The truth is you can’t name one. Not one. Seriously, try it.”

***Here's what they're doing in California to sell Obamacare. They're using your kids as propaganda tools.

The Los Angeles Unified School District will use a state grant to train teens to promote ObamaCare to family members. Covered California, the state’s health insurance exchange, announced grants of $37 million on May 14 to promote the nationally unpopular law.
LAUSD will receive $990,000. The district listed as a primary outcome for its project, “Teens trained to be messengers to family members.”

While you're struggling paycheck to paycheck, the government is handing out money for this kind of stuff. What's it gonna take to make people mad in this country?

***Where we're headed: Nearly 1200 people have starved to death in NHS hospitals because nurses are "too busy to feed patients." Yeah, government healthcare. I can't wait.

As many as 1,165 people starved to death in NHS hospitals over the past four years fuelling claims nurses are too busy to feed their patients.
The Department of Health branded the figures 'unacceptable' and said the number of unannounced inspections by the care watchdog will increase.
According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics following a Freedom of Information request, for every patient who dies from malnutrition, four more have dehydration mentioned on their death certificate.

I thought that had to be a joke when I first read it - or maybe hyperbole to prove a point. But nope, read on.

More of the Same...

***Well, yesterday's rulings by the Supreme Court certainly didn't lighten my mood any. Our cultural decay continues apace.

***Clean sweep of the IRS? Good idea, but I don't think it'll ever happen.

The agency has become the nexus of this ideology, thanks to its traditional role as revenue collector, and its new role as health-insurance authority in the Affordable Care Act (ACA), better known as Obamacare. The IRS has never been popular with Americans. Tax collectors have been unpopular since the time of Jesus, after all, and their public relations haven’t improved much in the succeeding two millennia.
Lately, though, the reputation of America’s tax collectors has hit bottom. It started with a ham-handed attempt to defuse the results of an Inspector General audit that showed the tax-exempt unit had singled out conservative groups for heightened scrutiny, and arguably harassment.

Then there's this: Another IRS official takes the 5th.

***Gay lobby's next target: Benefits in all 50 states. You really think they're ever gonna stop once they start getting their way?

***Scalia dissent: Gay marriage decision "jaw-dropping." This man is a genius. Too bad he's surrounded by so many pinheads.

"Today's opinion aggrandizes the power of the court to pronounce the law," Scalia wrote in the dissenting opinion. It will have the predictable consequence of diminishing the "power of our people to govern themselves," wrote Scalia, who was joined in his dissent by Justices Clarence Thomas and Chief Justice John Roberts, while Justice Samuel Alito wrote a separate dissenting opinion.

Scalia described the "assertion of judicial supremacy over the people’s representatives in Congress and the executive" as "jaw-dropping."
"It envisions a Supreme Court standing (or rather enthroned) at the apex of government, empowered to decide all constitutional questions, always and everywhere 'primary' in its role," said Scalia. "This image of the court would have been unrecognizable to those who wrote and ratified our national charter."

Scalia had particular disdain for fellow Justice Anthony Kennedy's ruling in the 5-4 case, saying it opened the door for a federal law allowing same-sex marriages.

“It takes real cheek for today’s majority to assure us, as it is going out the door, that a constitutional requirement to give formal recognition to same-sex marriage is not at issue here — when what has preceded that assurance is a lecture on how superior the majority’s moral judgment in favor of same-sex marriage is to the Congress’s hateful moral judgment against it,” he wrote.

***WWII soldier's  letters delivered to son 69 years later. Wow.

A letter mailed from a U.S. Army soldier during World War II has finally made it across the pond, some 70 years later.
Chuck Kunellis, of Fair Oaks, Calif., said he was “flabbergasted” to receive two letters written by his father, Chris Kunellis, to his mother, Phyllis, on Monday, 69 years to the day they were penned by the late soldier in 1944. The letters had been mailed from Italy to Arlington, Va., but they never reached their intended destination.
“I was astounded,” Kunellis told “I got this letter from Australia and had no idea who it was from. Then I opened it up and I was just flabbergasted.”

My Prayer
And shall I pray Thee change Thy will my Father,
Until it be according unto mine?
But no, Lord, no, that shall never be, rather
I pray Thee blend my human will with Thine.

I pray Thee hush the hurrying eager longing
I pray Thee soothe the pangs of keen desire.
See in my quiet places wishes thronging,
Forbid them, Lord, purge, though it be with fire.

And work in me to will and do Thy pleasure.
Let all within me, peaceful, reconciled,
Tarry content my Wellbeloved's leisure,
At last, at last, even as a weaned child.

***Well, the news this morning has certainly got me down. First, the ridiculous Executive Orders Obama is planning regarding climate change. More bogus science to bring this economy even lower. How can any thinking person still believe this is not by design? That's another reason to be down - a "debate" I had with some liberals yesterday who think he's just great. Yep, you guessed it. All of our problems are Bush's fault and those awful Republicans just won't let him fix them! They honestly believe that, so that tells me they're too far gone to ever see the light. Unfortunately, they vote. Last hit on my mood was the election of Edward Markey to the Senate to replace John Kerry. Shouldn't surprise me that the idiots in Massachusetts would vote for more of the same, but there was a much better choice in Gabriel Gomez. I guess I shouldn't expect much from the dimwits who kept sending Kennedy to the Senate, and last year the fraud Elizabeth Warren. We're doomed...

***Oh, another reason to despair for our country? Anthony Weiner leads all Democrats in race for New York Mayor.

***5 Senators who support Immigration Bill don't know answer to key question about it. How could they? They haven't even read it.

As the Washington Examiner's Philip Klein recently reported: "Under Obamacare, businesses with over 50 workers that employ American citizens without offering them qualifying health insurance could be subject to fines of up to $3,000 per worker. But because newly legalized immigrants wouldn’t be eligible for subsidies on the Obamacare exchanges until after they become citizens – at least 13 years under the Senate bill – businesses could avoid such fines by hiring the new immigrants instead."
On Tuesday afternoon, THE WEEKLY STANDARD asked five different U.S. Senators about this problem. These five senators, all Democrats, voted to cut off debate Monday night on the revised immigration bill, but none of them knew if the bill would create a financial incentive for some employers to hire amnestied immigrants instead of American citizens.
"We're trying to solve that right now. I don't know if that's been solved," Senator Max Baucus of Montana (chief author of Obamacare) told THE WEEKLY STANDARD.

The country's in the very best of hands, to quote Glenn Reynolds.

***Why Orthodox Christians Should Appreciate an Unorthodox Bono - from Jim Daly at Focus on the Family:

Recently, I had the chance to interview U2 front man Bono for a Focus on the Family broadcast airing June 25. To be sure, Bono is a unique rock star, as well-known for his activism in helping the people society often overlooks – the poorest of the poor, and those living with HIV and other diseases – as he is for his music.

What sometimes gets lost in the mix, however, is the motivation behind Bono’s work. It’s his very real Christian faith. So while I spent some of my time with Bono talking about his childhood, his role as husband and father, and even U2, it was his passion for helping others, and the reasons behind that sense of his Christian calling, that quickly drove our conversation.

Putin Cleaning Obama's Clock?

***Sure seems that way. Remember all the howling about how the world hated us when George W. Bush was president? Is it better that they now laugh at us?

Washington was stung by Russian defiance… The White House said it expected the Russian government to send Snowden back to the United States and lodged ‘strong objections’ to Hong Kong and China for letting him go. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said during a visit to India that it would be “deeply troubling” if Moscow defied the United States over Snowden, and said the fugitive “places himself above the law, having betrayed his country”. But the Russian government ignored the appeal and President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary denied any knowledge of Snowden’s movements. Asked if Snowden had spoken to the Russian authorities, [Dmitry] Peskov said: “Overall, we have no information about him.”

Well played, Obama.

***Liberals are doing their level best to restrict your Second Amendment rights. Be vigilant!

Liberals are trying every tool at their disposal this year to go after guns. They have failed on Capitol Hill to restrict the Second Amendment, so they are moving through the states to enact their agenda. The latest maneuver is to hike the tax on guns and ammunition to dissuade the law-abiding from buying firearms. It’s the perfect storm of liberalism — more revenue for a bigger government and fewer people keeping and bearing arms.

Courage Poet: Wish Belkin, From Wish Belkin's "Diurnalis" © 2000

When evening comes the shadows grow, as the sun begins to set.
Take care that you don't come to know, a thing that's called regret.
Not what you try or what you do, throughout a carefree youth.
It's what you don't you'll come to rue, when time reveals it's truth.

There is wisdom to be had from mistaken words and acts.
You'll find that failure's not so bad, it strengthens you in fact.
Rejection's fear or the fear of failure, that paralizes you.
Is the stuff of tears and that which keeps you dreams from coming true.

It takes a certain kind of nerve to tell someone you care.
But then nature tends to serve the person who would dare.
Bravery isn't something you can cultivate from seed.
It must be conjured up anew each time that there's a need.

So take these words and hold them close,
it's certain you'll find that,
one second of courage to speak from the heart
will result in you hearing them back.

You've Been Baracked!

***My friend Rebekah directed me to a blog I hadn't seen before, IMAO. There was a post there about making "Barack" a word in the dictionary, and a whole thread ensued. Some examples:

Seanmahair [High Praise!] suggested that “Barack” should be a word in the dictionary, with the definition being along the lines of:
“The state of being disconnected, incompetent, inept, and criminally stupid.”
I think “Don’t be so Barack” would make a great catch-phrase for us liberty-loving folk. Quite useful any time a liberal says something stupid. It’s like punching a hippie, except your knuckles don’t smell like weed and patchouli afterward.

Embaracksment: The redistribution of wealth.
Baracktivisim: The intentional redistribution of wealth.
Barackcident: The inadvertent redistribution of wealth.

It’s time to play “Guess The Meaning!!”
(brought to you by the makers of IMAO Ronin Juice… It’s baracking good!)
“Honey, could you take out the barack for me?”
“What the barack are you doing?”
“I’m taking a barack!”
“Well, get off your barack and do it yourself!”
“Don’t get your barack in a bunch!”
“Kiss my barack!”
“Watch your barack, smarty pants.”
“Well, the barack is starting to barack like baracking barack.”

You get the idea. There's more, lots more! Follow the link.

Further down, this is interesting:

White house press secretary Jay Carney is taking some heat because of the way he dodges some questions.
and there were at least 9,486 times where he’s dodged a question.
The breakdown, according to Yahoo!, includes:
I don’t have the answer (1905 times)
I would refer you to someone else (1383 times)
You already know the answer (1125 times)
I’m not going to tell you (939 times)
Not that I know of (927 times)
I don’t want to (588 times)
I’m not sure (549 times)
I won’t speculate (525 times)
No comment (429 times)
I’ll get back to you (387 times)
It’s a good question (381 times)
See yesterday’s non-response (231 times)
The president won’t tell me (117 times)
Let us solve his problem and have him just say “Barack” when he needs to be a clueless liar.

 Thanks for the material, Rebekah!

***Benghazi just got closer to Hillary Clinton. Call me cynical, but I still doubt it'll touch her in any meaningful way. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

The decision to keep U.S. personnel in Benghazi with substandard security was made at the highest levels of the State Department by officials who have so far escaped blame over the Sept. 11 attack, according to a review of recent congressional testimony and internal State Department memos by Fox News.
Nine months before the assault that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others, State Department Under Secretary Patrick Kennedy signed off on an internal memo that green-lighted the Benghazi operation.
The December 2011 memo from Jeffrey Feltman — then-Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs (NEA) — pledged “to rapidly implement a series of corrective security measures.” However, no substantial improvements were made, according to congressional testimony to the House oversight committee from Regional Security Officer Eric Nordstrom.

Jimmy Fallon:

Fashion designers Dolce & Gabbana have been sentenced to 20 months in jail for tax evasion. Their lawyers are appealing the sentence while Dolce & Gabbana are appealing the prison uniform. Orange is so last year.

That's right. Dolce & Gabbana were convicted of tax evasion. It didn't help when the judge asked how they pled, and they were like "Fabulous?"

I really don't think any of those guys are funny most of the time. But those are pretty good.

Once a man visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God. Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby. Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same idol?" "No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage."

The gentleman examined the idol and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked. "There is a scratch on the nose of the idol." said the sculptor, still busy with his work. "Where are you going to install the idol?"
The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high. "If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked. The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "I will know it."

The desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not. "Excellence" is a drive from inside, not outside. Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction and satisfaction of God.

Where was the Tea Party?

***Targeted by the IRS.

One of the great questions about the 2012 campaign has been “Where was the tea party?” They were not the fierce force they’d been in the 2010 cycle, when Republicans took back the House. Some of us think the answer to the question is: “Targeted by the IRS, buried under paperwork and unable to raise money.”
The economist Stan Veuger, on the American Enterprise Institute‘s blog, takes the question a step further.
The Democrats had been badly shaken by the Republican comeback of 2010. They feared a repeat in 2012 that would lose them the White House.
Might targeting the tea-party groups—diverting them, keeping them from forming and operating—seem a shrewd campaign strategy in the years between 2010 and 2012? Sure. Underhanded and illegal, but potentially effective.

President Barack Obama will announce plans Tuesday for sweeping new climate change rules for the Environmental Protection Agency that he plans to execute by circumventing Congress, The New York Times reports.

The new regulations are expected to target power plants that provide electricity across the country, likely impacting the costs to consumers. The president is also expected to announce increased funding for alternative fuel production.

"This is a serious challenge – but it’s one uniquely suited to America’s strengths," Obama said in a video released by the White House this weekend.

"There’s no single step that can reverse the effects of climate change. But when it comes to the world we leave our children, we owe it to them to do what we can," Obama said.

Me: “It doesn’t, but see the date? That’s several months old. We couldn’t fill it now if we tried.”
Customer: “You’re telling me if I’d brought this in exactly as it is just a few months ago, you’d have been able to take it?”
Me: “Theoretically, yes.”
Customer: “So why won’t you take it now? Nothing’s changed!”
Me: “Except today’s date, sir. The prescription expired a few weeks after it was written. You can even see the disclaimer written at the bottom.”
Customer: “So why doesn’t it notify me when it expires? It ought to say ‘expired’ on it!”
Me: “Um… the paper isn’t going to magically print the word ‘expired’ if you wait too long to bring it in.”
Customer: “Well, it should!”

Random Thoughts

***I have a tiny bit more time to blog on Saturdays and Sundays (aren't you glad?). I've been meaning to write about something my pastor said last Sunday all week! One of his points in the sermon centered on some people who say they don't want to "force their religion on their children." You've heard people say they want to "let them make their own choices." Well duh. Parenting is about guidance. They're going to make their own choices anyway. What they need is guidance, leading by example, and genuine interest in their well-being. As James said, the WORLD is certainly going to influence them, every day. Mostly it's going to be negative and against everything we believe in as Christians. They don't care if they hurt your children as long as they make a lot of money doing it. We did our best to make sure our kids knew the difference between right and wrong, and brought them up in a Christian home and in church. We made sure they knew the real reasons behind Christmas and Easter. Of course we made mistakes, who doesn't? I remember the protests when we got cable and the first thing we did was block MTV...and the arguments at Blockbuster when we told them they couldn't get anything rated worse than PG, or a game rated above T. If your kids don't hate you once in a while when they're teenagers, you're not doing it right! It's hard to keep kids on the right track nowadays with all the crap out there. Your prayer life certainly improves when you have kids, have you noticed that? Especially when they get their driver's license!

***Did you know they're working on a "Star Wars 7?" This one isn't written by George Lucas - it'll be interesting to see how this one goes. I think the casting was the main problem with the last (first?) three. It would be hard to top the casting of Han, Luke, and Leia, it was perfect. I think the worst choice was Hayden Christensen. He was really bad as Anakin in Episodes 2 and 3. I didn't think Natalie Portman was particularly good as Padme, either. The one bright spot was Liam Neeson in Episode 1. They were all three very watchable, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion they didn't come close to the original trilogy. I'm anxious to see what happens in Episode 7. I've heard Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill will be in it as, of course, their original characters. It'll be worth watching if only for that.

When freedom, from her mountain height
Unfurled her standard to the air,
She tore the azure robe of night
And set the stars of glory there.
She mingled with its gorgeous dyes
The milky baldric of the skies,
Then from his mansion in the sun
 She called her eagle-bearer down
And gave into his mighty hand
The symbol of her chosen land.

The shoe department of Bergdorf Goodman, on the morning of May 29, looked like “an insane asylum of very well-dressed women,” said Sasha Charnin Morrison, the fashion director of Us Weekly, who was reporting from the front lines of what has become an annual rite of spring in Manhattan: the first day of the designer shoe sale.

In one room of the sprawling, glittering, intoxicating Shangri-La of shoes that begins at the top of the escalator on the second floor, were the smaller sizes: Manolo Blahnik pumps made of shiny turquoise patent leather ($322, down from $645); piles of citron and mint Lanvin leather ballerina flats ($247, from $495); and surreal pink pumps covered in blue crystals from Giuseppi Zanotti ($1,097, from $2,195). In another room were similarly decadent displays in larger sizes, beckoning from the racks like abandoned puppies.

It amazes me that people will pay those prices for shoes. I don't care what they do to them, there's no way to make them worth that kind of money. Hey, I'm all for letting people spend their own money the way they want, it just always floors me when I see what people will pay for stuff.

The latest search for Jimmy Hoffa has been called off. The FBI now says they called off the search because the NSA said it would be too difficult to find Jimmy Hoffa because he hasn't made a phone call since 1975.

***Latest shamnesty amendment: Would give legal status to people displaced by climate change. Honestly.

The amendment I am proposing is quite simple. If enacted, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Secretary of State, may designate individuals or a group of individuals displaced permanently by climate change as stateless persons.
Again, let me be clear about what this amendment does. It simply recognizes that climate change, like war, is one of the most significant contributors to homelessness in the world. And like with states torn apart and made uninhabitable by war, we have an obligation not to deport people back to a country made uninhabitable by sea level rise and other extreme environmental changes that render these states desolate. It does not grant any individual or group of individuals outside the United States with any new status or avenue for seeking asylum in the United States.

White House Fiddles, Middle East Burns

***What a disastrous foreign policy. Best quote from Glenn Reynolds:

Not looking so good. I just wish Obama would show the steely determination and merciless follow-through that he displays with regard to his domestic political enemies when dealing with America’s foreign enemies.

***Twice as many people turn out for Tea Party Rally in DC than for Obama's Berlin speech.

***Socialist medicine in action. This is what we're heading for.

NHS watchdogs probing a hospital accused of letting 16 babies die from neglect covered up their findings, a shock report out today reveals.

The evidence of Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors was destroyed on the orders of its top brass — so Cumbria's Furness General Hospital got an all-clear.
It meant flawed CQC inspections were also hidden. A senior manager allegedly decreed: "This can never be in a public domain."
The review also identifies a "dysfunctional working relationship" within the CQC, which admits giving "false assurances to the public" in 2010.
Today, Downing Street branded the allegations “deeply disturbing and appalling”.

Small-business owners are so concerned with the costs of Obamacare they're holding off on hiring and even are getting rid of jobs, a new poll has found.

According to a recent Gallup poll, of 603 small-business owners, 41 percent of those surveyed said they have frozen hiring because of the new healthcare law. Another 19 percent say they have reduced their number of employees in anticipation of the Affordable Care Act, which goes into effect next year and will force businesses with more than 50 workers to provide health coverage for every employee.

***Waste and more waste.

Even as it’s cutting food programs for poor women and children, the Agriculture Department is still spending money on housing for wealthy residents on Martha’s Vineyard and paying companies to run marketing campaigns for alcohol, pickles and jelly, according to a top senator who wants to see those priorities changed.
Sen. Tom Coburn, Congress’s top waste-watcher, sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on Wednesday saying that since the sequesters, the department has still spent $45,000 to help a West Virginia company market its Bloody Mary mix and sent hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayers’ money to help vineyards and wineries rebuild websites or start wine festivals and “wine trails.”
The Oklahoma Republican also asked Mr. Vilsack to justify why the department had threatened to cut off food aid to 600,000 women and children under the sequester, but is still paying for free lunches for even wealthy children in Tulsa, Okla., under a summer program.

CRUZ:  This Gang of Eight bill is a disaster.  It is the exact same thing we saw in 1986.  The last big immigration reform was in 1986, and the federal government told the American people, we're gonna grant amnesty for the three million people who are here illegally.  And in exchange for that we're actually gonna secure the borders. We're gonna solve illegal immigration, and the problem is gonna go away.  Now, we saw what happened.  The amnesty happened, the borders never got secured, and now three decades later, instead of three million people, it's 11 million people.

As I was leaving the funeral parlor, I ran into a Marilyn. (Marilyn has been a true friend to me over the years. She is one of those friends who is with you in the good times and is always by your side in the bad times. She has a sense of humor that makes everyone laugh and she makes everyone feel at ease.) We chit chatted for a few moments, and then she asked me how my job was. So I started talking and talking and talking (am sure she wished she had never asked, ha) I was having a stressful week with my job and I was telling her all the issues and how I was feeling. She listened to me as I was raving about my frustrations, then without saying a word, she took her hands and placed them on my face, and said to me,
"But at least you had a day."

***Taliban attacks US troops in Afghanistan. What? You haven't heard about this?

The Taliban has said it was behind an attack that killed four US troops in Afghanistan, just hours after Washington announced planned talks with the insurgents. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said: "Last night two big rockets were launched at Bagram (air base) which hit the target. Four soldiers are dead and six others are wounded. The rockets caused a major fire."
A US defence official said the deaths were caused by insurgent "indirect fire," either mortars or rockets.

And death shall have no dominion. Dead men naked they shall be one With the man in the wind and the west moon; When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone, They shall have stars at elbow and foot; Though they go mad they shall be sane, Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again; Though lovers be lost love shall not; And death shall have no dominion. And death shall have no dominion. Under the windings of the sea They lying long shall not die windily; Twisting on racks when sinews give way, Strapped to a wheel, yet they shall not break; Faith in their hands shall snap in two, And the unicorn evils run them through; Split all ends up they shan't crack; And death shall have no dominion. And death shall have no dominion. No more may gulls cry at their ears Or waves break loud on the seashores; Where blew a flower may a flower no more Lift its head to the blows of the rain; Though they be mad and dead as nails, Heads of the characters hammer through daisies; Break in the sun till the sun breaks down, And death shall have no dominion. - See more at:

So True!

***Obama: "I'm no Dick Cheney." You've definitely stumbled onto the truth THERE, Obama. Dick Cheney has character, integrity, and guts. You are a flaccid wilted stalk of celery. How childish and unpresidential is THAT statement, anyway?

“Some people say, ‘Well, you know, Obama was this raving liberal before. Now he’s, you know, Dick Cheney.’ Dick Cheney sometimes says, ‘Yeah, you know? He took it all lock, stock, and barrel,’” the president told interviewer Charlie Rose in the exchange recorded Sunday, according to excerpts of the transcript published by BuzzFeed. “My concern has always been not that we shouldn’t do intelligence gathering to prevent terrorism, but rather are we setting up a system of checks and balances?”

Does that make any sense to you?

***Sarah Palin blasts CBS. Love this woman. She tells it like it is.

On Monday, the former Alaska governor slammed CBS’ Elizabeth Palmer, who reported on the Iranian election this weekend and sparked controversy in conservative circles by saying “in U.S. terms it was as if all the candidates for the presidency came from the tea party,” as representative of the “out of touch,” “lamestream” media.
“Okay, Elizabeth, you just put the BS in CBS,” Palin said. “It’s things like that that people hear and see and realize how out of touch the lamestream, the mainstream media is. To compare, really, the Iranian revolutionaries with those who are patriots in America and just want government to live within its Constitution?”

Expect a visit from the IRS soon, Mrs. Palin.

***World's Biggest Coaster? Not me...

Hold on to your hats. The Las Vegas Strip may be getting another attraction for risk-loving thrill seekers.
Amusement ride company, U.S. Thrill Rides, plans to spend $100 million on building what they call a “Polercoaster” near the Tropicana Hotel on the Strip. The 650-foot tall coaster would be the tallest in the world and would be a combination of a ride and an observation tower with stunning views of Las Vegas.
