Gun Grabber

***Yeah, that's our president. Obama promises 2013 gun grab bill. 2008 on the campaign trail, he said:

“I believe in the Second Amendment. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away . . . So if you want to find an excuse not to vote for me, don’t use that one because it just ain’t true. It ain’t true.”
Barack Obama, September 9, 2008

Nearer In Service
Poet: John McLeod

Write these few words
And then put down the pen,
Briefly, I hope, before I write again,
Surely to find in days that are to be
Nearer in service my dear Lord to Thee!

Look to the light
And in your searching friend,
Know that His love will guide to journey's end,
Open your eyes there is so much to see
Nearer in service, my dear Lord to Thee!

Into each heart
Let joy of living spring,
And with a gentle word some kindness bring,
Yours is the gift of giving, choice quite free,
Nearer in service, my dear Lord to Thee!

***From Jim Daly at Focus on the Family:

Do you make New Year's resolutions?midnightclock.jpg

By the time the ball falls in New York City's Times Square tonight, millions of Americans will have compiled their lists. Many of the changes we want to make are often practical - from losing a few pounds to keeping our cars and closets better organized.

Some of our resolutions might delve a bit deeper. When I wanted to find new ways to study God's Word as I drove and traveled, I decided that I would begin listening to the Bible on CD. It's been a wonderful discipline. I would highly recommend it. It has strengthened and deepened my understanding of the Christian faith.

When you think about it, change and growth lies at the heart of our Christian walk. Each of us is a work in progress. We should always be growing and changing. Jesus lived a perfect life in a fallen world to help show us the way. But He does more than just show us - he will mold us if we let Him.

It was the prophet Isaiah who wrote, "Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand(Isaiah 64:8).

As we turn the page on 2012 and look with anticipation toward 2013, I want to share something with you from the renowned theologian and writer, Jonathan Edwards. After reading his 70 resolutions (many of which were written at the age of nineteen) you might be inspired to make one or two of them your own. I hope you'll let me know which ones resonate with you.

From the Daly home to yours, a very Happy New Year!
