A Month of (unreported) Incompetence

***Obama showed gross incompetence during the month of September (as he has for his entire presidency), and the media have all but ignored these stories:

Charles Krauthammer was correct when he suggested that the media should just “relocate to Chicago” given that they’ve all but become “‘an auxiliary of the Obama campaign”.

***Waiting until the wedding night. This is a great column by Steven Crowder.

***Can you believe this? The Obama Administration is urging contractors not to warn of layoffs.

The Obama administration has doubled down on its plea to defense contractors not to warn employees about possible layoffs due to looming budget cuts --  going so far as to offer to cover legal fees in compensation challenges.
The move drew a stern rebuke Friday from South Dakota Republican Sen. John Thune, since federal law requires employers to give notice if mass layoffs are likely.
"For the second time, the Obama administration has now encouraged government contractors to ignore the WARN Act and hold off on warning employees about possible layoffs due to the looming sequestration cuts,” Thune, lead author of the Sequestration Transparency Act, said Friday.

Yeah, they really care about the "working man," don't they? Hit 'em by surprise with a layoff, the poor fools. It's all for the greater good, our Dear Leader's reelection!

***How one man beat diabetes with - wait for it - a low carbohydrate diet. That's certainly the only thing that works for me, and my sister has done really well, having lost 45 lbs this year. As he recounts in his just-released book Into the Fire: A Firsthand Account of the Most Extraordinary Battle in the Afghan War,” Meyer and the members of his embedded team came under heavy fire from insurgents near the Afghan village of Ganjigal. Meyer, who was wounded in the fight, made five forays into heavy enemy fire, killed a number of enemy insurgents, evacuated two dozen Afghan soldiers, and recovered the bodies of four Americans, including three of his team members.

1. Samuel Ryder, the namesake of the Ryder Cup Trophy, was a devout Christian businessman who made his fortune selling seed packets (for a penny!) through the mail in Great Britain.OrigRyderTrophy.jpg

2. Mr. Ryder was a Sunday school teacher as a young man and an ordained deacon at Trinity Congregational Church (now Trinity United Reformed Church).

3. Sam Ryder never played golf until he was 50 years of age when he was encouraged by a doctor to pick up the game in order to exercise and get some fresh air.

4. Wanting to share his wealth and spread appreciation for the game of golf, Mr. Ryder donated a trophy to the Free Church Ministers Golf Society in 1902 for a simple tournament.

5. That initial competition in 1902 was twenty-five years before official match play began. Still championing the sport, Mr. Ryder sponsored an international golf tournament in 1926 and donated another gold trophy in 1927 for a contest between American and British players.

Leno Turns?

***Boy, when Jay Leno turns on you, you're in trouble! Guess he's mad that Obama went to see Letterman instead of the World Leaders at the U.N., and not him.

"I love how the politicians capitalize on this kind of thing," teased Leno. "Like the minute the replacement refs were fired, President Obama said, 'See, sometimes losing jobs can be a good thing. It's a good thing.'"
When the laughter subsided, Leno continued, "A new survey out today shows how much time we waste every day in our lives. For example, we waste seven minutes in line every time we go to get coffee, 28 minutes getting through airport security, four years waiting for Obama to do something about the economy. Every year, we waste a lot. We wasted a lot of time."

***Let this one sink in:

Last week, First Lady Michelle Obama sounded a battle cry at a Congressional Black Caucus awards dinner when she said protecting the right to vote is the nation’s most important civil rights issue. If that were true, that would mean there no credible civil rights concerns in the country. What Obama was talking about was the effort by Democrats to prevent the implementation of laws requiring voters to present a photo ID when casting their ballots. The common sense measure has the support of the overwhelming majority of Americans. They understand that cheating is baked into the DNA of our political parties and see nothing unreasonable about requiring someone to do the same thing as when they wish to board a plane, a train, open a bank account or buy a beer or a cigarette: prove they are who they say there are. Mrs. Obama’s attempt to demagogue this issue is the backdrop for false liberal arguments that voter ID legislation is the modern version of the Jim Crow laws of the segregation era. Those claims are currently being adjudicated in Pennsylvania, where a judge has until Tuesday to decide whether the state’s voter ID law should be thrown out.
In August, Commonwealth Court Judge Robert E. Simpson, Jr. threw out the challenge when he said that while he was sympathetic to those who claimed they had difficulty acquiring a photo ID, there was no proof of disenfranchisement. That ruling was appealed to the Supreme Court, which has now kicked the case back to him and hearings were again held this week to determine whether the state is acting appropriately. Though the state has loosened the already lenient requirements to get a state card, the judge hinted that he might give in to pressure from liberal groups and grant an injunction to block its implementation. If so, it will undermine attempts to ensure voter integrity.

Steve Jobs said: “Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.”

There is no shortcut to excellence. You will have to make the commitment to make excellence your priority. Use your talents, abilities, and skills in the best way possible and get ahead of others by giving that little extra. Live by a higher standard and pay attention to the details that really do make the difference. Excellence is not difficult – simply decide right now to give it your best shot – and you will be amazed with what life gives you back.

***From Moral Stories:
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence.
The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily, gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said “you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.”
You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.
Make sure you control your temper the next time you are tempted to say something you will regret later.

A "Bagel Head?"

***Seriously? This is all the rage in Japan, apparently.

If you thought Japan's extreme fad culture would stop short of people injecting saline into their foreheads to make it look like they have bagels implanted under their skin, you were wrong. Being a "bagel head" is, indeed, currently in vogue in Tokyo.
The bizarre body modification procedure, which was highlighted in a Sept. 23 episode of "Taboo," a show on the National Geographic Channel, involves injecting about 13.5 ounces (400 milliliters) of saline into a person's forehead to form a huge welt, then pressing a thumb into the welt to create an indent. The process takes two hours, and the trendy swelling goes down in under a day.

Why on EARTH would any sane person do this??

God's Cake

-- Author unknown
Sometimes we wonder, "What did I do to deserve this?" or "Why did God have to do this to me?"  Here is a wonderful explanation!
A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.
Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, "Absolutely Mom, I love your cake."
"Here, have some cooking oil," her Mother offers.
"Yuck" says her daughter.
"How about a couple raw eggs?"
"Gross, Mom!"
"Would you like some flour then?  Or maybe baking soda?"
"Mom, those are all yucky!"
To which the mother replies, "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!
God works the same way.  Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times.  But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good!  We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

Clear and Present Danger

***What do Islamists and Progressives have in common?

The eerie similarities between radical Islamist all over the world and radical Leftist that reside right here in America. Because their ultimate goals are synonymic. A nation; dare I say a world, under submission to their will.
I believe these two ideologies are clear and present dangers to America and the world at large. Because both; at their core seek to suppress any speech or expression that is contrary to their worldview. Free speech has to be the first and most protected foundational pillar of any new nation.  And it must be re-enforced perpetually in any existing nation that has adopted it.

***Andy Williams, RIP.

***Where is the media? Rhetorical, of course.

Media ignore Obama attack on "those who slander the prophet of Islam."

The president told the UN that the “future must not belong” to a series of people including “corrupt” leaders and those who “bully women.” But one line from that list stood out. “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”
That line appeared almost nowhere in the old media where Obama’s supposed defense of free speech dominated. The broadcast networks ignored it and only Jake Tapper noted that Team Obama had also tried to get the video pulled from YouTube for violation of “terms of use.” The New York Times skipped the line, ironically in an article headlined: “Obama Tells U.N. New Democracies Need Free Speech.”

If There Was Ever Any Room For Doubt...

Hatched by Korso
...our Senate majority leader Harry Reid really is a pathetic little twerp:
"He’s coming to a state where there are a lot of members of the LDS Church," Reid said in advance of [Mitt] Romney’s Friday visit to Nevada. "They understand that he is not the face of Mormonism."
Said the man who built his fortunes on shady real estate deals and peddling influence as a member of Congress. The story goes on:
Reid, the highest-ranking Mormon in elected office in America, noted on Friday a recent opinion piece published in the Huffington Post by Gregory A. Prince, co-author of "David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism." "He said that Romney has sullied the religion that he, Prince and Romney share," Reid said.
Being accused of sullying religion by Harry Reid is rather like being castigated by Madonna for not being a virgin. Considering his bearing of false witness against Mitt Romney over the man's taxes, I'd recommend re-reading of the Ten Commandments before sitting in judgement on anyone.

Still Punchin'

***Another unbelievably busy day...and I have a meeting this afternoon. Sheesh.

***Reid is just looking plain ol' stupid now. I mean, to me he always did, but now he's lashing out at Romney's faith?

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid lashed out at Mitt Romney’s faith during a conference call with reporters, saying he is “not the face of Mormonism” and suggesting he has tarnished the religion.
Reid, a Democrat and the highest-ranking Mormon in U.S. elected office, also said he agrees with claims that Romney has “sullied” the Latter-day Saints faith.

First of all, Romney has never claimed to be the "face of Mormonism." That phrase in itself is dumb. Secondly, exactly how has HE sullied the faith? Seems to me YOU'RE the one throwing out lies and then having to eat them. What a sickening little troll.

President Obama, speaking to world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday, vowed the U.S. "will do what we must" to prevent Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon -- calling this a threat to Israel's existence.

***Still blaming the film, even now that we know the attack was planned in advance. Still think Obama's not in over his head?

However, the Libyan prime minister said last week that the attack on the U.S. consulate was pre-planned. Also, the chairman of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee said on Sunday that not only was the attack planned but also that there was reason to believe it had been carried out by al Qaeda or an al Qaeda-affiliated group and that he had seen no evidence that there had even been a demonstration outside the consulate before the attack.

***France to eliminate words "mother" and "father" from documents.

A proposal to legalize gay marriage in France would also abolish all references to “mothers” and fathers” in official documents.

Under the draft bill, same-sex marriages would become legal, and gay couples would have the same rights to adopt children as heterosexual couples.

The bill would also do away with all references to “mothers and fathers” in the civil code and replace them with the gender-neutral term “parents.”
Pretty sad. It's not law yet, but I bet it will be.

***Americans turning on MSM. As they should. It is amazing, though, how their skewed narrative does still influence a lot of people.

The non-stop MSM hit pieces on the Tea Party, searching almost desperately for nuts and Nazis at Tea Party events in order to discredit the movement and the drum roll of predictions that the movement was about to disappear, were impossible to miss. The contrast with the much more welcoming treatment given OWS would, I think, convince an observer from Mars that much of the press hunted for evidence to hang the Tea Party and looked past compelling evidence that OWS was deeply flawed, largely without serious political support or impact and increasingly influenced by some very shady movements and folks.

And that's just one example.

A Russian scientist and a Czech scientist had spent their lives studying the grizzly bear. Each year they petitioned their respective governments to allow them to go to Yellowstone to study the bears.
Finally their request was granted and they immediately flew to New York and on west to Yellowstone Park.
They reported to the ranger station and were told that it was the grizzly mating season and it was too dangerous to go out and study the animals. They pleaded that this was their only chance and finally the ranger relented.
The Russian and the Czech were given portable phones and told to report in every day. For several days they called in, and then nothing was heard from the two scientists. The rangers mounted a search party and found the camp completely ravaged, with no sign of the missing men.

They followed the trail of a male and a female bear. They found the female and decided they must kill the animal to find out if she had eaten the scientists because they feared an international incident. They killed the female animal and opened the stomach to find the remains of the Russian. One ranger turned to the other and said: “You know what this means, don’t you?”
The other ranger responded: “Of course...The Czech is in the male.”

***We went to Barnes & Noble yesterday after lunch with Emily & Johnathan. We certainly raised two bookworms, they love to read! I picked up Max Lucado's most recent book, "Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine." I love what it says on the back:

Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace?

God’s grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly.
Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off.

Let’s make certain grace gets you.

"From insecure to God secure." I absolutely love that. Can't wait to read this one.

Plaintiff is not a member of either group. The Complaint further alleges that AVIS did not give her the gay and lesbian group member price discount. Plaintiff alleges that California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act ... prohibits a business from discriminating between its customers on the basis of sexual orientation....

  • Moses led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea where they made unleavened bread, which is bread made without any ingredients. Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the ten commandos. He died before he ever reached Canada but the commandos made it.

Reid's Fevered Imagination

***What a jerk. Romney did what Harry Reid said he wanted, he released his 2011 taxes. Now that his "Romney didn't pay any taxes" lie has been exposed, he has sunk to a new low. (I know, I didn't think that was possible, either). Now Romney paid too much, he's hiding something! do intelligent people justify voting for these bozos?

Also, a revised approach from the left: Romney now pays too much in taxes and leaves too many deductions on the table. As they say, you can’t make this stuff up.
Update II: Reid responds: “He’s hiding something! It is so evident he’s hiding something!”
Now Romney’s “hiding something” just because reality doesn’t conform to the scenario that’s been played out in Harry’s intracranial cuckoo’s nest for the past several weeks?

You Have Been Warned

***David Gelernter has a good piece about the closeness of this election. Given Obama's dismal record, it should be a cakewalk for Romney. Why isn't it? I'm still ticked at the clueless voters who put Obama where he is, thinking they were being all open minded in voting for a black man. What did that get us? A Cowboy Named Bud

-- Author Unknown
A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous
pasture in California when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward
him out of a cloud of dust.
The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, RayBan sunglasses
and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy, "If I tell you
exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you
give me a calf?"

Bud  looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully
grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects
it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the
Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his
location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the
area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.
The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and
exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg , Germany .
Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image
has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL
database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his
Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response..
Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his
hi-tech,miniaturized HP LaserJet printer, turns to the cowboy and says,
"You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."
"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud.
He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with
amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.
Then Bud says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what
your business is, will you give me back my calf?"
The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why
"You're a Congressman for the U..S. Government", says Bud.
"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even
though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already
knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of
equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you
don't know a thing about how working people make a living - or about
cows, for that matter.  This is a herd of sheep. ....

***This is disappointing: Chick-fil-A will no longer fund traditional marriage groups. We supported them when they stood up for what they believed in. Now they have caved.

Chick-fil-A stopped funding traditional-marriage groups in an effort to open a new Chicago restaurant, but the company initially kept quiet about the decision, prompting gay rights groups to speculate that the company feared a backlash from conservative customers.
The Christian-rooted fast food restaurant agreed to stop funding groups such as Focus on the Family that oppose same-sex marriage in a meeting with the Chicago politician who had been blocking the company’s move there. Chick-fil-A wrote a letter to Alderman Joe Moreno affirming this, according to his spokesman, Matt Bailey, but the company initially wouldn’t allow his office to release the letter to the public. Three weeks later they relented.

In the same way we supported you, we can now stay away. Mark my words, they'll lose business over this.

***I'm so glad it's Friday! I have a lot to do today, but I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Mom & I will do our usual coffee/yard sale/ Amish store thing, then we're going to meet Emily for lunch! Gonna be a great day.

***You can't make this stuff up: Censured tax cheat Charles Rangel to Mitt Romney: "Unlike you, Americans pay their fair share of taxes." Where to start...?

***I commented a couple of times yesterday to a post on Facebook regarding Mitt Romney wanting to abolish the National Endowment of the Arts. She "hates" him for it and can't see how anyone would vote for him. Really? The middle east is burning, our economy is in a shambles, our national debt is to the point where the deficit number is so large none of us can really fathom it, our unemployment rate is twice what it was when Obama took office, his foreign policy has made the U.S. a laughingstock around the world, he snubbed our largest ally in the middle east, yet had time for a fundraiser and a visit to David Letterman days after our Libyan ambassador was brutally murdered and dragged through the streets....and she's worried about the NEA? *I* don't see how any thinking person could possibly want four more years of abject failure from this president. It's hard for me to believe the race is as close as it is.

***Okay, *this* is sickening, and just another example of Obama's narciccism:

Yep, they're really using it.

***National Debt? He pretends not to know when asked by a vacuous David Letterman:

“A lot of politicians are dishonest, but Barack Obama may be in a league by himself. He appeared on the David Letterman show last night, and Letterman asked him about the national debt (somewhat surprisingly). Obama’s answer was a masterpiece of prevarication. He described how the debt originated, and claimed, falsely, that he inherited a $1 trillion deficit. In fact, this country had never run a deficit anywhere near $1 trillion until FY 2009, the first year of the Obama administration. (And, no, Bush isn’t to blame for it; the Democratic Congress waited until Obama was in office to pass the vast majority of the bloated spending for that fiscal year.) Letterman, to his credit, went on to ask Obama how much the national debt actually is. Obama evidently knew that if he said $16 trillion his audience would be horrified, so, incredibly, he pretended not to know! You have to see it to believe it.”

***Global warming, huh? Antarctic sea ice sets another record.

Antarctic sea ice set another record this past week, with the most amount of ice ever recorded on day 256 of the calendar year (September 12 of this leap year). Please, nobody tell the mainstream media or they might have to retract some stories and admit they are misrepresenting scientific data.

***University of Tennessee refuses to ban pre-game prayers. Good for them.

These claims of how it "ostracizes" nonbelievers and makes them feel "out of place" are totally bogus. They might talk one or two students into saying that, but nobody is forced to pray if they don't want to.

***Obamacare tax penalty will hit nearly 6 million uninsured. Yeah, it's a great idea. We have to elect conservatives in November and get rid of this monster - and the health care plan, too.

Dr. Seuss Explains Computers

-- Author Unknown

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
and your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash!

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
but your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
and your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
and the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly turn off the computer, and be sure to tell your mom.
