Sweet Sunday

***Yeah, I'll be working most of the afternoon, but I love Sundays.

***We went to a reception yesterday honoring a couple in our church on their 50th anniversary. That is quite a milestone, especially these days. As our pastor said in his remarks, what a great example to our young people not to give up when things get tough. Every marriage has its ups and downs, and the thing to do is work through it, not run away from it. Congratulations, Tom & Betty!

***"The Three Stooges" has opened in theaters. Mark & Johnny love that old show. I've never liked it, seems to me all they do is smack each other. Mark never wants to go to the movies, but he does want to go see this one. Here is a slideshow with some interesting facts.

Mark's favorite Stooge, Curly:

***Short, concise, and to the point: Dick Cheney's opinion of Barack Obama's presidency:

“He has been an unmitigated disaster to the country,” Cheney said of President Barack Obama.

I think it would have been great if Cheney had been healthy enough to run for president. He'd make a great one.

In context:

Former Vice President Dick Cheney walked onstage without any assistance and spoke for an hour and 15 minutes without seeming to tire in his first public engagement since he underwent a heart transplant three weeks ago.
He sat in a plush chair throughout the long chat with daughter Liz Cheney but looked better, even, than during recent appearances where he has been gaunt and used a cane.
Cheney even threw in a couple of political plugs amid much reminiscing at the Wyoming Republican Party state convention in Cheyenne on Saturday.
He said presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is going to do a “whale of a job.” He said it’s never been more important than now to defeat a sitting president and the Republican Party should unite behind Romney.
“He has been an unmitigated disaster to the country,” Cheney said of President Barack Obama.

***Washington is poised to suck more out of taxpayers. Oh, there's a surprise.

If you thought preparing your tax return for 2011 was a painful exercise, just wait. Individuals and small businesses are staring down the barrel of a bevy of tax increases, new taxes, and expiring deductions scheduled to take effect at the beginning of next year. The additional tax burden is potentially so great that some are calling it “Taxmaggedon.”
Without action from Congress in 2012, small businesses will face one of the largest tax increases in American history. On December 31, 2012, the Bush tax cuts are scheduled to expire. Overnight, the maximum tax rate for individuals earning $200,000 or more, and couples filing jointly who earn $250,000 or more per year, will jump from 35% to 39.6%.

This is exactly what they want. They are punishing the very people who keep the economy strong, who provide most of the jobs in this country. Their plan is the same as it has always been: Force more people out of business, force more people out of work, and make them dependent on the government for their day to day needs. Why else would Democrats continue policies that are proven to wreck the economy? These people are contemptible, and for the sake of the country we had better get most of them out of there in November, especially the Socialist now occupying the White House.

***35 fun facts about the movie Titanic. Did you know that Matthew McConaughey was who they first wanted in the role of Jack Dawson? And Reba McIntyre was first cast as Molly Brown? To me, that movie was okay, but I certainly didn't think it was as great as most other people do.

***Doolittle's Tokyo Raid. This is a great report on the 70th anniversary. There are five survivors featured here. Take the time to read and watch this!

***

A child came crying to his  mother and  complained that he has severe stomach-ache. She told him, “It is because your belly is empty. Come and have some food.” The child obeyed.
The next day the mother had a heavy head ache. The child consoled her, saying innocently, “Mommy, it is because your head is empty!”

***Why liberals hate Ann Romney, and other stay-at-home moms.

I am the counterweight to the state. Therefore, I am dangerous. I am subversive simply by existing. My love for my children is a dominant force that works its way into their psyches and that trumps the state-run schools and the state complicit media world. Some mothers, of course, are entirely in sync with schools and media. They happily reinforce the statist message. But those of us who dont are a powerful anti-statist force and we must be challenged.

***Black activist to Trayvon's parents: Get off the stage and let us politicize his death.

A well-known, mainstream media-vetted college professor named Dr. Boyce Watkins states that it’s time for Trayvon Martin’s parents to “step to the side,” out of an apparent fear that “being honest” could negatively affect the race-baiting political agenda that Obama allies like Al Sharpton have carefully crafted.

Despicable people.

A Prayer in Spring
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
To which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends he will,
But which it only needs that we fulfill.

Robert Frost
