Faith & Begorrah!

***Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, the saint's religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast--on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

***Where is the outrage?

If the pope called for the destruction of all the mosques in Europe, the uproar would be cataclysmic. Pundits would lambaste the church, the White House would rush out a statement of deep concern, and rioters in the Middle East would kill each other in their grief. But when the most influential leader in the Muslim world issues a fatwa to destroy Christian churches, the silence is deafening.

As the writer says, imagine someone like Billy Graham calling for the destruction of all mosques, or just one, for that matter. Talk about a furor! But this? Bah.

This is not a small-time radical imam trying to stir up his followers with fiery hate speech. This was a considered, deliberate and specific ruling from one of the most important leaders in the Muslim world. It does not just create a religious obligation for those over whom the mufti has direct authority; it is also a signal to others in the Muslim world that destroying churches is not only permitted but mandatory.

Obama has an obligation to stand up to these thugs. But will he? Of course not. He's a wuss, and they know it.

***More idiocy from celebrities. Honestly, does the camera suck the brains right out of them? Here's an exchange between Rosie O'Donnell and Angelica Huston:

"What has happened, that we are fighting again for reproductive rights?" wonders Rosie O'Donnell, filling-in for Piers Morgan. "And how did guys, get to be the ones to solely discuss it?" responds Angelica Huston. "It's absolutely astonishing to me, it's the Dark Ages."

"Fighting for reproductive rights?" Who's trying to take them away from you? My goodness, object to paying for other peoples' birth control, and of course you're trying to keep them from using them. This is beyond stupid.

***Don Surber: "My prediction: On January 21, 2013, Barack Obama will be out of the White House and Rush Limbaugh will be on the radio."

From your lips to God's ears, sir.

***Whitney Houston's death was from a lethal combination of drugs and alcohol. What a tragedy.

Singer Whitney Houston died from ingesting a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs and alcohol rather than drowning, the entertainment news website TMZ reported Monday, citing family sources. The Los Angeles County Coroner told the late pop star's relatives that there was not enough water in her lungs to kill her, TMZ noted, and she was likely dead before she went under in the bathtub in her room at the Beverly Hilton over the weekend. Houston was 48 years old.

So shooting a basketball is a not a one-size-fits-all technique.  Neither are things like romancing your spouse or raising your kids -- or just living life!  God has given each of us very specific gifts and talents. As Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6).

The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
