***That describes our weather in Indiana the past couple of days. Sunny, mid-70s, low humidity. It just doesn't get any better than that! I hope it's like this Friday for our annual Fourth of July party!

***Here, in a nutshell, is what President Obama thinks of the Constitution. Basically, it gets in the way of wealth redistribution. Check this out:

OBAMA 2001: As radical as I think people tried to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn't that radical.  It didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, at least as it has been interpreted -- and Warren Court interpreted it in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. It says what the states can't do to you, says what the federal government can't do to you. But it doesn't say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf.  And that hasn't shifted, and one of the tragedies of the civil rights movement was because the civil rights movement became so court-focused, uh, I think that there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change.  And, uh, in some ways we still suffer from that.
Does that make you want to barf, or what?

***Y'know, I thought when I retired I wouldn't have to get up so early to get my work done, you know, because I'd have all day. For some reason it ain't workin' out that way!

***The Supreme Court makes a good decision with regard to gun prohibition, which of course is unconstitutional. Good on them.Notice the dissenters, though. That's the kind of jurisprudence you get when you elect liberals as president.

Back At It

***Had a nice weekend. We had nice weather, albeit a little hot, and had a family reunion yesterday. My printer bit the dust Saturday, unfortunately, and I had to go buy a new one. I usually get Hewlett-Packard machines because I've always had good luck with them, but Office Max had a nice Samsung laser all-in-one on sale, so I got one of those. We'll see how I like it. So far, so good.

***Great comment!

A reason for the "wealth or income gap": Smart people keep on doing things that are smart and make them money while stupid people keep on doing things that are stupid and keep them from achieving.
People who get an education, stay off of drugs, apply themselves, and save and wisely invest their earnings do a lot better than people who drop out of school, become substance abusers, and buy fancy cars and houses that they can't afford, only to lose them.
We don't have an income gap. We have a stupid gap. Guess which group voted for Obama.

***I started lap swimming again yesterday morning - at our outdoor public pool here in Richmond. They offer lap swimming from 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. That's a great time for me, I like to work out early. Yesterday morning it was 61 degrees, but I went anyway. The water wasn't bad - it was a little chilly when I got out, but it's worth it! I can tell I haven't done any lap swimming in a month and a half! I made it 30 minutes, though. What a great workout swimming is. I'm going to our municipal pool for the summer instead of the college pool where I go in the cold weather because it's $1.00 each time versus $5.00 each time at the college. Pretty easy choice there!

***Man, it feels as hot in Indiana as it did in South Carolina! It's summer, though, it's supposed to be hot. I vowed during that long winter that I wouldn't complain about the heat, so I won't!

***I'm sure you've heard that Gen. Petraeus has been picked by Obama to replace Gen. McChrystal. Funny, a couple of years ago Obama was calling this man a liar, now this same man will save his political butt in Afghanistan, and he'll do it because he's a patriot, not a politician through and through, first and foremost, like Obama and the rest of the Democrats. They were pulling for him (Petraeus) to lose when Bush was president, now they'll be all for him when their guy is in office. Why can't more people see through this crap?

***Here's the video of Obama lecturing Gen. Petraeus in 2007. What a smarmy little man our president is.

We're Baaaack!

***Boy, is that a long drive! Also, of course there was the obligatory construction site slowdown that cost us about 45 minutes to an hour - but other than that, we had a smooth drive home. Took about 12 1/2 hours, so that's not too bad. We had a wonderful time! I'm sunburned, of course, but not too bad. It was fun, but it's good to be home!

***My yard sale yesterday went really well. We made well over $100.00, good enough for a couple of nice meals out when we're in South Carolina, and we cleaned out a couple of closets and the garage in the process. All in all, worth the trouble.

***This is an *excellent* article on the Democrats' view of government, how we got to where we are, and how we can escape. Definitely take the time to read it. An excerpt:

President Obama was elected by an emotionally and morally exhausted populace, convinced it could find refuge from the rough battlefields of international prominence and free-market responsibility in the arms of maternal government.  The automated growth of government requires the public’s continued fatigue.

***This will make absolutely no difference. ***Rush Limbaugh marries for the fourth time. Hope this one "takes."

***Sir Jerk. Here's Jay Nordlinger's take on Paul McCartney's dumb comment at the White House:

So, Paul McCartney is in the East Room of the White House, with President and Mrs. Obama. He is being fĂȘted because he has just won an award from the Library of Congress. He caps the evening with this remark – this is his farewell, his send-off: “After the last eight years, it’s good to have a president that knows what a library is.”

Can anyone tell me why people are such schmucks? Why they are so graceless and clueless and nasty? I mean, Paul McCartney’s like the richest, most popular, most honored musician in the world. Does he not have it in him to behave like a gentleman — or at least a non-boor — while he’s being celebrated at the White House? Does he have to be the Wanda Sykes of popular music? Is it not possible to love Obama, as McCartney does, without hating Bush — or at least insulting him on a high, non-political occasion?

I don’t care that “Penny Lane” is a pretty tune, Paul McCartney is a horse’s butt. Let me amend that: He acted like one, on Wednesday night.

What a Jerk

***I'm speaking of Paul McCartney, who apparently refuses to grow up. Here's what passes for humor in his concert at the White House:

A sweet moment, but McCartney topped it off with a bite. After thanking the Library of Congress one last time, he let it rip: “After the last eight years, it’s good to have a president that knows what a library is.”

Job Offers

***Looks like (illegally) dangling government jobs is common practice with this administration, just like looking the other way is common practice for the press if it involves a Democrat.

***Then and now. As has been said time and time again, there sure is a difference in the media regarding coverage of Bush/Katrina and Obama/BP, isn't there?

***I disagree, John. Biden *is* a bad guy. You don't look the American people in the eye and lie through your teeth day after day if you're a good guy.
